The search engine Wikia Search, just one day old, has already been criticized by many.
Users already consider it yet another social networking platform. A hundred million pages are available on the alfa version which is open to everyone to see. However Wikia is aware of the fact that it will take at least a few years before it will be able to compete with other similar products.
Wikia Search was Jimmy Wales’s idea, co-founder of the online encyclopedia Wikipedia and President of Wikia.
Specialized websites are skeptic: some of them criticized the fact that there are no results’ rankings based on key words.
Michael Arrington from TechCrunch underlined that: “Many of us longed for Jimmy Wales’s new system for over a year. It was supposed to undermine Google’s supremacy. The alfa version is with no doubt the biggest disappointment ever”.
