The shortest domain name ever

Posted on 11/06/2007

Google purchased the one-letter and shortest domain name ever, g.cn.
The reason of this is to make it easier for Chinese users to find Google and to prevent them from visiting Baidu, one of Google’s competitors in China.

ValleyWag noticed how this domain is even shorter than Z.com owned by Nissan or than X.com owned by PayPal.
They are, from a certain point of view, “rare” domain names since they “escaped” IANA’s strict international domain regulations.

IANA, now under ICANN doesn’t allow the registration of one-letter domains. At the moment the new Chinese domain registered by Google is not operational.
